Normal business hours of the park include 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Stone Horse Green opened in October 2022 and includes an outdoor stage and band shell; a green space to enjoy; space for bistro tables; art installations that are interactive and beautiful; a fire pit; electric fireplace; and public restrooms (open on a timer during business hours).

This space is ADA accessible, beautiful and ALIVE. There are so many opportunities to enjoy this space, from sharing lunch from one of the many downtown restaurants to enjoying live music to relaxing in the green space. This is a space for all.

  • Stone Horse Green is located in downtown Middleton: 7550 Hubbard Avenue; click on the link to view updated events.
  • Dogs are only permitted on the sidewalk at Stone Horse Green.
  • Alcohol may be brought in (unopened) in plastic or aluminum. No glass allowed in Stone Horse Green, or pre-opened beverages.
Event flyer highlighting Stone Horse Green’s fall preview activities in the community green space, featuring trivia, jazz, theater, music, and holiday celebration—with dates and times from September through November.

All in the Name

Stone Horse Green’s name is derived by the livery stable that resided in its place years ago (they found quite a few old horse shoes during construction!). To pay homage to its history, the committee decided to incorporate it into the space through beautiful stone horse statues that are actually heated in winter for visitors to sit on!

Find maps, brochures, visitor guides and more travel materials here for free, as well as a curated display of railroad photographs and items by the local Middleton Historical Society and just a short walk from the Rowley House Museum. The depot is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Closed weekends and during city holidays.

Its history
There was no settlement at what is now downtown Middleton until 1856 when the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad selected that location for its new rail line and depot. Development then shifted from the Pheasant Branch area, which had been a thriving settlement. Businesses spurred by the depot included three hotels, stockyards and warehouses. Until the 1870s, large quantities of wheat were shipped to market from the Middleton station.

The present building, which was built in 1895, is the third depot – the first two were lost to fires. The depot continued as a passenger station for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad until 1960 and as a freight depot until 1975. In that year, Middleton purchased the building for a senior citizens center. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
